Hey I'm starting to go nutz here :/

I bought a new graphics card not that long ago & it was running fine.

I'd average 250-300 frames per second in game and was more than happy with that. Now for no reason at all, i'm getting 30-60 frames and the game is twitching all over the place making it all but unplayable???

I have never overclocked so it can't be burnt out. I haven't changed any settings that I'm aware of & it's not like i've got torrents going - my ping is still 30-50 which is pretty good considering i'm in Adelaide.

Can anyone think of something that may have caused this?

Sounds like FPS lag to me, all i can say is reboot CS:S. I guess, make sure you have the latest drivers and there are no big processors going on in the background.
I'm sure someone knows a fix for it.

V-Sync may have been turned on, check your graphic settings and turn it off if so

Need more info. What GPU do you even have so we can tell you if the frames are normal?
Ex, With a GTX580, you should have LOTs of frames. But with a 5770, your frames will be less.
With any sort of computer-tech question, try to post as much details about your specs as you can (see my sig for an example)

Try the max_fps [number] as well, set it 20-30 frames higher than your average.

OK peeps, i've got a 1 gig GTX560 Ti.

I know there are pleny of faster cards out there but mine was giving me heaps of frames, even when chugging on a gg server with 40 players it was well over 150.

Now if I go on the same server it will go down to like 12fps at times :/ I honestly think it has to be some kind of hardware failure because you don't start getting less than 1/10th the frames when you haven't changed any settings.

I made sure I reinstalled the latest drivers etc. More money down the drain by the sounds of it.

In that case, try going back to the last set of drivers. It might help.

I would save up and wait for the next generation components to arrive (new generation graphics cards won't be too far away/8 core processor coming out in september)

See Fishy, the problem with your suggestion is that it would require this strange, rarely heard of thing known as "common sense" - I know I know, a foreign concept to you and me. Not to mention another absurd thing your idea promotes - patience?? What?? (and for all the kids out there I don't mean when you are in hospital or at the doctor).

I live in the now generation brah, answers need to be instant - resolutions to every problem painless & requiring zero sacrifice. Sheesh, when were you born, the 80's?? You might as well have suggested that I grow some kind of feng shui garden and meditate on the problem

I was born in the 80's and the best advice I have for you about your GPU is to make sure the drivers are UP TO DATE, not rolled back.

sometimes new drivers are faulty, you should downgrade and then update as soon as new ones come out

easiest test for me is always another computer..

This is unlikely BUT...
Go into your BIOS, and find some graphics settings.
Make sure you set it to PCI-E unless no GPU is detected. that should force your dedicated GPU to use.

Next tweak i like to do (if you are on windows 7) go to Start>(type) msconfig (hit enter)> boot > advanced options > tick number of processors > select max processors. (dont fiddle with the max memory)
You will also notice a PCI Lock. I have no idea what this does but perhaps google it to see if it benefits you.
If still not solved, take your problem to overclockersau (OCAU) and sign up and post your question in the right spot on their problems. Chances are that someone else has experienced the same thing. Those guys really know their stuff when it comes to computers.

Also, your 560Ti is ♥♥♥♥ing awesome. My brother uses it and it doesnt skip a beat.

Yeah, i simply meant that in comparison, one would have less frames than the other. I was trying to narrow down typical performance for his GPU.

I had the same problem with my old laptop, used to get 400 - 600fps and crashed to 5 - 25fps constant.
THE FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM:
1. Take all chords out
2. Pick up the computer
3. Take it outside (So you don't get a mess all over the ground)
4. Go downstairs and grab an axe
5. Come back up and gently give the computer a test swing by tapping the case softly
6. ♥♥♥♥ING MAUL THE THING, DESTROY IT, TAKE YOUR RAGE OUT ON THE WHOLE FKN THING!
7. Sell the parts that didn't get destroyed and buy a new computer.
