DTK forums upgrade/New release of life

Hey guys i have noticed in the last couple of days that the DTK forums is really slow and takes a long time to load stuff and no it is not my internet i have asked other people about it and it seems they are having the same issue.
I would also like to mention the the forums is out of date and hard to navigate for new users i myself had trouble finding we to post this message.
Has the owner or council fixed this issue because i know that they see the issue with it being really slow, out dated and hard to navigate for new users.
I think it is time for an upgrade and what i mean by upgrade is that they change this platform to a new modern easy to navigate platform
or at least update this one and make it easy to navigate.

Due to numerous ddos attacks on our servers and forum, firewall controls were tightened, leading to slower load ups. Hopefully they can be relaxed soon.

As far as the Forum platform goes.............

To be honest I like having time to make a cup of coffee between clicking on the forums and them opening, it's very Zen.

I think we are banned from updating the forums due to UN preservation of historical monuments legislation, we'd end up in the Hague. And having been to the Netherlands, it's as boring a f**k so nobody wants that.

It is a bit complicated.

It is definitely a fact that forums are very very outdated. There are better forum software out there that are more current and offer more features.

It is also a fact that DtK as a community is no longer growing. We get new members now and then but we also have some members moving on. Community based gaming is a thing of the past for majority of CS:GO and CSS (more so for CS:GO). We have ~1500 DtK Members but the number of who are actually active would be less than 100.

At our peak, the forums were heavily modified and plugins added to cater to the needs of the community and increase efficiency. The modifications were made for a certain version of the software we run. So while there are better forum software out there currently, if we decide to move over, we will be losing A LOT of current features and functionality. We would have to change and compromise on a lot of other things as well. These would include losing how the member ranks work and the actual ranks no longer existing, how we do recruitments ,specialised forms,etc. Members would be losing their identities and proof of contributions over the years.

The other obvious factor would be cost as well. We could purchase some additional software and even hire coders to replicate the functionality and features of the old forum on the new one. But this would be a costly venture and we are talking costs in the thousands.


So in the end , it is a question of whether this investment or trade off is worth it. If we are starting new with a new forum and with new ranks and loss of other things, is the community actually going to see the numbers to validate all these changes and justify the costs. We have to be realistic and accept the hard truth sometimes.

Now i do understand where your coming from it will have a high coast and it will be very time consuming so i have done some thinking and this is what i have come up with LETS HAVE A VOTE so all active members who actually play and are still active in the forums can have a say.
I know that we cant transfer everything such as ranks over to a new platform but we can make new ranks such as Top Donator, Long term member, Top 2 player now that is just an idea and can obviously be a lot better.
Now such as the active members in this forum When u make a new platform they will have to sign up/sign in which will be an easer way of counting how many active players we actually have Such as u post in this forum that you have made a new platform and they will have to sign up/sign in it so much easier then what we have now because that way we can determine who is active and who is not.
After saying all of that we can monitor what is being said and delete old posts so that why the archive of the server doesn't fill up and make the server slow as has happened to this forum because no one monitored anything and it has just filled up over many years.
So as i said at the beginning lets put this to a vote so the active members have a say weather we make a new Platform or if we don't.
Because i don't really think u guys are gonna fix this one and its very old and it probably isn't worth the time and it would be better to use the time we would use to fix it just to make a new modern improved platform and ranking system.
Instead of making the new platform then deleting the old one straight away how about we make it a trail platform and get active members to sign in and over time fade out the old forum so that way if we ever need information from this forum its there or if a member asked about something that is in this forum you will be able to send them a direct link to it.
Its 2023 i think its time for a change.

I feel the speed at which the forums load is definitely an off-putting thing when it comes to interacting with the community, although Rubi makes a valid point that it is very zen between each page. If this was my first time on the forums and the page took around half a minute to a minute to load I wouldn't bother, that said a complete overhaul of the forums is probably not needed as the cons outlined by Sqaull outweigh the pros. Personally I like the current forum UI, but I can see how it is very different and outdated compared to what other servers are using. It would be very cool to see DTK expand into CS2 when it releases to the public, possibly porting some game modes (IDK if you guys develop or buy the plugins) to bring new players into the community.

As long as !ws isn't available on DTK I highly doubt there will be any new player generation. I understand the reasoning why we don't have it but thats the truth behind it.


Cs2 might change things, but I highly doubt it considering the force of competition that is KZG. The only popular non KZG server is oceanic jailbreak and a few retakes servers in Australia, thats it. KZG basically has a monopoly over the AUS space


The main emphasis is push from existing community though, we would need a lot of older players to come back and push a server forward in population, to even start building a new playerbase. Thats a tough task considering the state our csgo community was in a few years ago was no good.
