For a while now, DR has been lifeless... with no-one playing it. It used to be so popular.
Can someone fill me in on why DR is so ded?

I would advise anybody against creating a shit post fest.
You wanna post, fine - be constructive.
If you have any forum or server questions send me a PM.

Rather than just repeating a load of numbers and typing a petty hashtag, how about we give the admins some advice and people's opinion on what's wrong and what could be better. If you have nothing constructive to say then don't comment
There's nothing really to be done with server, you can't really change Deathrun - it is what it is. Deathrun (in my personal opinion) is relatively boring after a few maps. People could always look into finding good maps that aren't currently on the server to breathe a second wind into the server, people will join wanting to play new maps etc.
There's plenty of other things that could help bring server population back - low-gravity deathrun events were a favourite of mine, potentially we could see one in the near future?
Myself, and I'm sure others would be happy to attempt to host server crawls in hopes to help out the population of not only Deathrun, but the other servers that struggle as well.

As a former Senior Admin of the server, I feel like I have something to contribute to this thread.
1) The server has had a very unstable populations since inception, it has wavered in and out since 2015. Currently, the game mode itself is facing a slow death, this is the current list of CSGO Deathrun Servers:
2) As Cody mentioned, Deathrun can get really boring, really fast, especially when the same maps are being played for literally over 2 hours like Hot Desert. It's very repetitive and especially since the zoning of the skips on certain maps, there is no alteration in playstyle. Also being Death is the worst.
3) There are currently no Admins for the server to maintain it, add features, gain population etc. Due to this, attention isn't being drawn to the server and therefore, no one is playing on it.
4) This reason is entirely on me. When the server was booming in early-mid 2016, Lewi and I were racking in a load of hours a week, so people knew there would always be players on and I think we made the server enjoyable, but that's up for debate I guess. Basically, once Lewi had stepped down and I went MIA for my HSC year and a few other reasons, there were only a couple admins left to run the server, with me being the only experienced one and not even being able to get in game. The server was not running at the same level as it had been, as such, players took advantage of this and began to act out and devolve into the mess that once existed.
5) The void period - basically there was no real leadership on the server, I was trying to do a lot of shit BTS, but the majority of the admins I had promoted were not the quality that Deathrun needed, mainly due to the fact that the quality of the players at the time was not good admin material. No one was really taking authority of the server for a long time, and the server gradually began to fizzle out as players were either ditching it for other games, getting banned or getting bullied off the server.
6) The community Deathrun created (not just in CSGO) is generally built on toxicity, some people just pushed the limits too far, it just so happens that a lot of those people who pushed the limits happen to be DtK Deathrun Regulars, many of which are permanently banned from the community. They also began to create a cult following, as such, those who supported these banned members and were sympathetic towards them have boycotted the server.
I could list a couple more reasons, but they would be very opinionated and I'd rather keep this thread as constructive as possible with #nodrama.
PS:
server died long before they were even SA and JA.

I have written 2 essays to reply to this post and I've lost them both because of internet issues + fat fingers so I'm keeping this short and sorry if I seem a bit aggrovated because I am.
Ham summed it up really well: population was extremely toxic, players would often abuse each other into oblivion splitting the servers into two sides. The environment within the deathrun server was horrible. Personally, and not bragging at all this is just what would happen when I joined the server; people would abuse me as I was quite good at completing maps. No life, nerd and the whole typical roast your mate serves you when they finally beat you in Fifa and you never hear the end of it. I would often go into the server with sound disabled because it was almost bearable that way.
I wrote a respectful mention of barriers to stop map exploits in my previous attempt at this post but honestly they are horrible. First of all there is no terrorist player that cares if you finish the map extremely fast because they don't want to be the terrorist, no one does. Secondly, if you are good enough to do a skip then you should be allowed to do it. Even the best players fail 7/10 times trying to go faster every round. Thirdly and most mind-numbingly, if you are going to add barriers don't make them velocity gaining boosters, make them kill zones. The fact that you could rebound and gain speed off them made more problems than there initially was without them.
Don't get me started on the player models, they tilt me out of this world.
The new maps that were added felt like a way of saying "this is a new map, it looks good so it has to be good". Some of the new maps were so bad, they killed the population instantly. Maps were outdated and maps that have been in the rotation for a long time that were clearly broken weren't removed.
There was no motivation what-so-ever to continue playing on the server since the only reward that was worth playing for was to get a good rank but that was almost impossible as the top 10 was full of exploiters and point farmers. Reset the ranks every once and a while and see how that goes.
Curious to why the T swapping was never fixed, maybe there was no fix known? Either way something should've been implemented so that one of the biggest problem still on the server was eliminated but if that wasn't possible just scratch that.
I can't remember what else I wrote but it was probably just rambling so I'll end it here. Personally I would love to play on the server again if there was a stable player base and dedicated staff that ensured the server wouldn't go back to the dreaded state it was at before; saying that I'm sure a lot of the regulars would come back.
3rd time lucky they always say, I want to see the server back on its feet.
Was a joke but whatever. Also the server didn't die long before they were SA and JA, the server was regularly getting full. When school has started this year the server was getting 10-15 players regularly. After most admins left and stepped down all the regulars stopped playing.

Bring back deathrun, make it whole again!

Hello reader,
If you are interested in helping deathrun, you can populate the server and invite friends to play. People are more likely to join a server if a few people are already on it. Typing #savedeathrun achieves nothing, and relying on others to #makeDRgreatagain may not result in the outcomes you desire. Be the change you want to see.
Sincerely,
Lobster
