Hi all,
I had an idea for an event that could engage the 3 main Australian communities in friendly competition: A mapping comp.
We hosted an internal mapping comp where players had to design a GG map and submit it, but that was a bust due to the inactivity of mappers in this community. Baring that in mind, I thought it might be suitable to host a cross community mapping event.
The communities involved would most likely be DTK, Mr and FG.
The event would require a map type that each community could use (example, jail break) and judges would need to be brought in to judge the event (most likely 1 from each community, someone who would be non-bias).
There are 2 ways the event could play out.
Method One:
A map type is designated (preferably a map type that each community uses) and a time limit is set for the projects completion. Each community would be allowed to present a maximum of 3 maps to the judges so mappers can work individually or as a team.
Mappers would be free to use prefabs from Gamebanana (although original content is valued more highly). The maps must be original, no remakes or releases of previous maps.
Method Two:
A map type is designated, the same as above, but the criteria is dictated. For example, if gun gam was the selected map type, the theme and texture allowances would be dictated (ie mappers have to use dev textures, glass and neon).
The same conditions apply for entries as in method one, 3 max per community and no plagiarism (even from your own old maps).
Judging:
Three judges would be selected in total, 1 from each community. The judges would need to have a reputation for being non-bias and would have to state why they gave the scores they give for a map.
The judging would consist of the following criteria:
Looks
Design
Game play
Atmosphere
I/O functionality (if non brush based map like GG)
Originality
Content
Each submission would be tested in succession and rounds can be played to determine the maps rating for criteria like game play and I/O functionality.
Each judge would write down pros and cons of the map, next to each point of criteria, indicating why they gave the score they did. The judges wouldn't be allowed to discuss their ratings, it would be done silently.
Once the ratings have been completed, they would submit the results to the event manager in charge for review and a winner would be awarded. In the event of a tie, the tied maps would be re-reviewed and issued a score out of 10 overall. Again, reasons must be listed for the score.
Rewards:
This part would need to be discussed with the other communities, but something along the lines of a certificate put on the walls of the map indicating it the winner of the ACMC (Australian Cross-community Mapping Competition), bragging rights and maybe games or something for the winners.
Anyway, this is something I really want to happen so let me know what your thoughts are on this.
