    The development team's next project?

    Hi all.

    As you may already know, our jail break map project is finished.

    I would like to approach everyone in the community to throw some suggestions our way for a new project.

    The map request must be something we can use on one of OUR servers, and not the rotation server.
    Details of the idea are appreciated, like themes, size, games, extra detail etc.

    All suggestions will be discussed by the dev team and credits will be given on the final release if the idea is used.

    Just an idea, create a mg course map. If you don't know what it is, it's generally just a bunch of obstacles which you need to pass to get to the end of the map. The maps vary in difficulties and this one imo would be a 'normal' difficulty for a course map.



    ..Or alternatively you could make a course map similar to bob2, it's just stage by stage connected with teleporters until you reach the end. It'd work better for the development team because each person could focus on 'x' levels.



    Just really something different and could potentially be good.

    I have no problems trying to create a concept for another JB map- its really all I know. I dont think i would be much good at bhop\surf\zombie maps. They are all different styles as people have previously posted. I am really happy to help and build upon our last creation. While it did take us months, it could have been quicker had people not said 'yes, i would love to join!' and then a few months later theyve gone AWOL. Newie pulled a MASSIVE effort for that JB map and its functionality.

    Newie, if you want to do another JB map I can give you a larger hand with the concept sketches, and maybe the textures of the map depending on what we\the team agrees is the right theme\direction. In fact, I could possibly help with the concept regardless of what sort of map you want to create. Keep me posted

    Sounds good.

    We do need to expand our releases outside of JB though.

    I know nothing about zombies and very little about surf and mini games, but it could be a good chance to learn and broaden our horizons. We would just have to play the servers a little to see what people like and how it all works.

    Just because I thought about it the other day and thought it might be good and I don't won't to forget about it.

    A JB map that is pretty much two in one. Have a couple teleports between each of them, or maybe a vent. Both have normal JB map stuff, ie gunroom, cells, games. But just make them a little smaller so the map size isn't crazy big. Then the spawning of all the players into on of the two maps is set to random or has a number played on one then it switches. I could think on this more but this is just the general idea and so I don't forget it.

    Interesting concept, but why this compared to making 2 maps?

    Unless a great map and creative CT's, 30 minutes sometimes gets a bit boring. Plus I've never seen anything like it and could be pretty fun not knowing which map you will get spawned onto. Think it would also make for fun gameplay to be trying to switch to the other map since a game might be on there and not on the other that the T's want to play.

    Well if I had to pick 3 suggestions, I would choose Zombie, jail break and mini games.

    Zombie pros:
    - Expanding out of JB and GG
    - lots of I/O to play with
    - Realism factor
    - A chance to learn something new

    Zombie cons:
    - Have no idea how its played
    - Have never looked at the requirements, ie map blocking, source mod integration etc.
    - No one on the dev team plays Zombies

    Jail Break pros:
    - Very easy to create
    - Enjoyable
    - Big target audience in the Source community
    - The only thing TC plays

    Jail break cons:
    - Have already made 2 JB maps with the dev team
    - Mini games are a bit boring as there is nothing new
    - Would have to think of a new theme

    Mini Games pros:
    - Easy to make
    - Have half of the mini games done from the JB project
    - Most of the team has experience with MG.

    Mini Games cons:
    - Does anyone still play MG? lol
    - Basic game
    - Boring to map for

    I actually had a replica, to scale map of Varrock almost completed.

    Then they changed it and I had nothing to work off Lol.

    I did complete a castle wars capture the flag map though

    If you actually wanted to make an Rs map
    You could base it around the port sarim jail and you could go on the boats and teleport to the mini games
    And you could have some mini games at port sarim aswell

    I actually may rebuild the varrock one. I did enjoy doing it and old school rs hasn't chance too much since I started the map so I can still model it off.

    Just need an idea of what to use the map for lol.

    Realism isn't always present in Zombie Escape maps. In fact, some of them are the complete opposite filled with crazy shit. (paranoid as a good example)

    A big thing with zombies is originality, which many maps do not have. The maps that really succeed are the ones that reach out of the typical "Human/Zombie Items", "Difficulties" and "Bosses".

    As for SourceMod integration, there is no such thing in the maps. There are a few Zombie:Reloaded CVars that you can change (and I do suggest it) however it is not always necessary.

    If you do happen to decide on zombies, I will be happy to send you a few examples that people enjoy, and brief examples on how everything fits together and works. It would be a big project, but if done right, really successful too.

    Are they player controlled, or are they NPC?

    From what I know, only one map has a player controlled. Some are static bosses, whist others have a faked AI using thrusters and triggers. I can send you some links if you send me a message on steam.

    Yeah because I saw a predator map with the predator running around - apparently it chooses random targets and moves towards them or something.
