The way Muslims do it is better, cutting the head off in one go is a lot less painful for the animals.

The reason its called "halal" is because the animal gets hung up for a day or more after its head has been chopped off so all the blood along with the germs and bacteria drain out of the body making it as clean as possible. That's what is meant by "halal".
